This evening road safety run started in 1981 in an effort to provide an extra riding activity for the section in June. The date chosen was the nearest Tuesday to the longest day, and this has continued ever since. The theory being that this would allow refreshments to be served at the organiser's home at the end of the run, and still allow riders without lights to get home legally. It became a popular event and each year the Londesbrough home was crowded with riders in all conditions from sunburned to soaking wet. When the family moved from Darlington to Dalton-on-Tees, numbers continued to increase, and this necessitated a move to the Village Hall, at which the event has started and finished ever since. It will be 25 years since the first E.E.E. in June 2006, and of course the 26th. event organised by Eric and Denise. We are therefore going to call this years event The Silver Jubilee of E.E.E. |
